Hard chrome plating of front fork tubes
Old hard chrome front fork tubes are often scratched or have some pitting caused by rust. This causes the seals to become damaged, after which the fork will start leaking oil.
RestoMetal can restore these front fork tubes to better-than-new state.
Process steps:
- Old chrome plating is chemically removed.
- The tubes are ground down in diameter until all damage is removed.
- A new oversized chrome plating is applied to get the tubes oversized.
- The chrome plating is ground back down to original dimensions.
Because any of the damaged metal is replaced by the hard chrome plating, our hard chrome platings are often around 100-150 microns thick. New front fork tubes often only have around 10-15 microns of hard chrome plating. This means any future damage is less likely then with the original fork tubes.
